Why slugs are taking hold of UK gardens

Britain's soggy summer may have brought dismay to many but for one particular creature, it is their favourite breeding ground.

The Spanish slug has been enjoying the wet weather and has been able to gain a stronghold in gardens around the country.

Slug expert, Dr Les Noble, said there had been a two-time increase in numbers while Paul Cook, curator of the Ness Botanic Gardens, in South Wirral said they had tried lots of different remedies to keep the pests at bay.
