Big picture: 'Hot dust' near Orion's belt

Messier 78 This image from the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment shows what the eye cannot see: orange represents the infrared glow of dust within Messier 78, a nebula just to the north of Orion's Belt. The image reveals cold, dense clumps of dust as well as hotter out-flows that indicate where new stars are forming.
