Birthplace of a Soviet space hero


When Yuri Gagarin, the first person to exit the Earth's atmosphere, blasted into space on 12 April 1961, millions of people marvelled.

He became a hero in his home country, but his beginnings were humble.

Today a replica of his family home marks his birthplace in the village of Klushino, about 200km from Moscow.
