House inside laboratory reveals home energy leaks

Help

A complete house built inside a laboratory could help improve the energy efficiency of thousands of homes across the UK.

The pre-1920-style terrace house was built by scientists at the University of Salford to determine where old-build properties lose the most energy.

Number 1 Joule Street was built in the three-storey laboratory to enable the researchers to control heat, light and humidity levels.

It is being unveiled at a major conference on adapting old properties to make them as energy efficient as possible.

Roger Harrabin took a look around the house.
