Partial solar eclipse over much of northern hemisphere

Help

A partial solar eclipse has taken place over Europe, the Middle East, Russia and northwest China.

The eclipse was greatest over northern Europe, with spectators in Sweden seeing as much as 85% of the sun's disc blacked out.

The BBC's Jonathan Amos said there was "not an awful lot of science to be done at eclipses" but the appeal was in "the beauty of seeing these celestial bodies move".
