What happens when food rots?
Dr Yan Wong from BBC TV's Bang Goes the Theory uses time-lapse photography to reveal how food decomposes.
Chemical reactions break down the cells in food, while organisms like bacteria and funghi start to digest it and maggots and flies are also attracted.
Bang Goes the Theory returns for a new series on Wednesdays at 1930 from 08 September 2010 on BBC One. Or catch up afterwards via BBC iPlayer.
