When 1,000 particle physicists collide

With the start-up of the Large Hadron Collider (the biggest physics experiment in the world), the race to find the Higgs boson particle and the hunt for dark matter, physics has been dominating the news like never before.

But what happens when 1,000 particle physicists get together?

BBC News visited the 35th International Conference on High Energy Physics (ICHEP) in Paris to find out.
