East London is 'fastest-growing area of the capital'

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, will today release figures showing that East London is the fastest-growing area of the capital - with 110,000 additional jobs created since the 2012 Olympic Games.

New figures released by the Mayor show an economic boom in the 2012 Olympic host boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest, with the number of jobs created more than three times the forecast pace of growth in 2013.

According to a report by Oxford Economics, this boom is expected to continue with an additional 125,000 jobs across the six boroughs by 2030.

Watch: Raising children 'in a box room'

BBC Newsnight

Mums Abigail Tumfo, Sheila Navacroft and Shakeria Wright have told the BBC's Newsnight about the difficulties of raising their children in one room.

They are all living in a 45-room development in Welwyn Garden City, after being forced to leave private rented accommodation in Waltham Forest in London, where council housing is sparse.

Waltham Forest council has said it does all it can to house people in the borough, and is working to repair any sub-standard housing.

Police vacancies 'absolute scandal'

standard

The figures obtained by the Labour group showed Harrow had the highest percentage of vacancies, with 15% of its sergeant and constable posts unfilled while Waltham Forest had the highest overall number, with 72 vacancies from a force of 664.

London Assembly Labour group's Joanne McCartney said: "It is an absolute scandal that police numbers have been allowed to fall this low, and these vacancies are leaving a gaping hole at the heart of the Met."
