Liverpool road closed over fears of silo collapse
A major route in and out of Liverpool has been closed for up to a week due to fears a former grain silo, which is currently being demolished, may collapse.
Demolition works are taking place on the building along Great Howard Street (A565) at Tobacco Warehouse Stanley Dock.
Due to engineering difficulties, Liverpool City Council has deemed the building unsafe and in the interest of public safety, Great Howard Street is to be closed between Walter Street and Saltney Street for both vehicles and pedestrians.
The diversion route into the city centre will be through Blackstone Street, Regent Road and Dublin Street while out of the city it will be Great Howard Street, Paisley Street, Regent Road and Blackstone Street.
