A couple who have raised about £130,000 for a Somerset hospital in the past 20 years have donated their holiday money to pay for a baby heart monitor.

Flo Essex, 81, and her husband Jim, 85, from Yeovil, were forced to cancel their coach trip due to illness.

They have now given a cheque for the £500 they had saved up to Yeovil District Hospital.

Mr Essex said: "As we didn't need it for the trip we wanted to do something for the babies."

"Hopefully it will save lives," he added.

The pair are well known for their fund-raising.

Last month, they presented three wheelchairs to the hospital's emergency department after raising the money for two and paying for the third themselves.
