Police had argued that the goat's owner acted recklessly in allowing the hungry goat to approach the flower bed. But the magistrate said the owner had no control over what the animal might eat, and was unaware of his preference for flowers over grass.

1. It's the ball boy. Chelsea's Eden Hazard apologised for kicking a ball boy during his team's Capital One Cup exit to Swansea. The Belgian was trying to retrieve the ball from under the ball boy, who had fallen on top of it.
2. It's four, equalling the record of Franklin D Roosevelt. Mr Obama took it twice in 2009, when Chief Justice John Roberts bungled the wording, and twice again this week. The oath has to be taken on 20 January but because that fell on a Sunday, Mr Obama took the oath in a private ceremony before repeating it in public on Monday.
3. It was threatening to leave them alone. The study, carried out in the US and China, examined the use of "instrumental lying" and found that such tactically deployed falsehoods were used by an overwhelming majority of parents.
4. It was Cuban cigars. Harry has just completed a 20-week tour of Afghan duty, including time as a co-pilot gunner in an Apache attack helicopter.
5. It's asparagus. The smell was described by a resident of Hove as "20 times worse than my son's trainers".
6. It's the file-sharing website, called Mega. Better known as Kim Dotcom, he was boss of Megaupload before it was closed by police. Nokia announced plans for 3D printers to make phone cases, while a PS4 is in the pipeline.
7. It's flower. A magistrate in Australia dismissed charges against a man fined after his goat ate flowers outside the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
