Answers

  1. It's China, who this year gave the honour to the 2.13m (7ft) NBA basketball player Yi Jianlian.
  2. It's skipping. The tug of war was included in the Olympics from 1900-1920 and rope-climbing from 1896-1932. In the plunge for distance, in 1904, the competitor who glided under the water the furthest for 60 seconds won.
  3. It's South Africa. Same-sex marriage is also legal in parts of the US and Mexico. Ministers in Scotland said they would bring forward a bill on the issue, and ceremonies could take place in 2015.
  4. It was in doctor's surgeries. Staub built and marketed his first treadmill in the late 1960s, inspired by the work of Dr Kenneth Cooper. He developed it so it could be used in a home or gym.
  5. It's jellyfish. Scientists in the US built the replica using silicone as a base on which to grow heart muscle cells that were harvested from rats.
  6. The UK - criticised by some for being one of EU's most eurosceptic members - was absent from Europe altogether. The eight-tonne mosaic was installed at the European Council building in Brussels at the start of the six-month Czech presidency of the EU.
  7. The 57-year-old hunter was spotted by a hiker, who reported him to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. The man, who did not identify himself, telephoned to explain he was trying out his goat suit in preparation for a mountain goat hunt.

Your Score

3 - 5 : You're kidding
