Defoe has had five touches so far... three at kick-offs

Sunderland 0-2 Stoke

If Sunderland are going to get back into this game they need to find a way of feeding top-scorer Jermain Defoe inside the Stoke area. The former England striker has only touched the ball five times so far, and three of those were from a kick-off.

Contrast Defoe's touch-map (l) with that with of Stoke's two-goal hero Marko Arnautovic (r) who has been working hard down the left and seeing plenty of the ball inside and outside the box, as well as finding the net twice.

No Sunderland goals, no Sunderland pressure...

Sunderland 0-1 Stoke

Sunderland are a goal down and not exactly looking like getting back into the game. With 20 minutes played, they are yet to have a shot at the Stoke goal, or touch the ball in the Stoke area.

Albion's Berahino to Stoke?

No transfer window would be complete without a Saido Berahino will-he-won't-he-leave saga.

Berahino will be leaving - to Stoke - if Mark Hughes has anything to do with it.

"We are interested in him, as a number of other clubs are," says the Potters boss. "I am hopeful we will be able to get something done."

Stoke bid for the 23-year-old in the summer, while the Baggies made a third contract offer last month.

Berahino has not played for the first team since 10 September and was sent to a conditioning camp in France to help him lose weight and regain fitness.

Berahino has not played for the first team since 10 September and was sent to a conditioning camp in France to help him lose weight and regain fitness.

It's fair to say that we have been looking for a striker who can score 20 plus goals for some time now. They are a little bit scarce on the ground and you have to work hard to get them over the line."

A baby's been born in a police car outside the Royal Stoke University Hospital after a couple's car broke down on the way to the maternity unit this morning.

Tristram Hunt: Stoke-on-Trent MP ending as Corbyn opponent

Chris King

Reporter, BBC Radio Stoke

Labour MP Tristram Hunt, who's announced today he's quitting as an MP, first won the Stoke-on-Trent seat in 2010.

At the time he was best known as a television historian and one politics expert said Labour was "parachuting in" a candidate.

He won again comfortably for Labour in 2015 when the seat was the only one in that general election where the majority of the electorate did not vote (49.9% did so).

Among his proudest achievements in the seat was being part of the national campaign that saved the Wedgwood Museum collection from being sold off.

Mr Hunt also held high profile position for Labour, becoming a Shadow Education Minister in 2013 and Shadow Secretary of State for Education later that year.

However he decided not to serve under Jeremy Corbyn when he was elected party leader and was part of a vote of no confidence in his leadership.

Staffing 'single most difficult challenge' to returning maternity services

Allen Cook

BBC Local Live

Problems with safe levels of recruitment and financial issues are two of the key reasons maternity services can't return to Stafford's County Hospital, a review has concluded.

In 2015, consultant-led services moved from the site to the Royal Stoke hospital and a review of that decision by NHS England was launched last year.

County Hospital sign
BBC

Now it has concluded it would not be possible to safely bring them back, citing safe levels of staffing as the "single most difficult challenge" to reinstating them.

The review adds that it would also be "financially unviable".

The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs both hospitals, says it acknowledges the report's findings and will look to "work with commissioners to review the recommendations".
