Tracking sea trout

Dr Andrew King of Exeter University is using DNA sampling to track sea trout in the south-west of England as part of an Atlantic Aquatic Resource Conservation (Aarc) project.

Some genetically unique trout populations have been lost in the past 100 years and there is a need to identify and conserve the remaining genetic diversity. The data from the project should allow the researchers to identify those populations that might be at risk and help inform the debate on the designation of marine protected areas.
