BBC News website readers have been sharing their pictures of New Year's Eve celebrations around the world. Nimish Peter captured the fireworks welcoming in 2013 alongside the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.

Alan Davis from Weeley in Essex is visiting Australia and captured Melbourne's colourful fireworks just after midnight from his viewpoint at Williamstown, Victoria, Australia.
This photo of New Year's Eve fireworks was taken at Coogee Beach, Sydney, Australia. Michael Hooper who took this photo said: "The evening was warm and people had taken picnics to the beach. Some people made a day of it, swimming and then finding a spot to watch the fireworks. It was a really friendly, family focused event, with lots and lots of small children."
Hogmanay celebrations were enjoyed by tens of thousands in Edinburgh, Scotland. Andrew Jack captured this shot just after midnight from Calton Hill in the Scottish capital. He said: "It seemed as if the hill was packed with people from all over the world. I'm from Edinburgh so head out to see the fireworks every year."
Joash Lewis went to the Tar Bar'l ceremony in Allendale, Northumberland, UK where the evil spirits of the old year are cast out. Joash said: "Local cafes stayed open late to provide hot soup for the crowd and there was a brass band and a number of folk musicians as well as the bonfire."

Clive Nagington's photo looks more like an artistic impression of fireworks than a live show, but hundreds of people watched and took photos of the celebrations in Chiang Mai's old city in Thailand.
Every year the small South American country of Suriname celebrates New Year's Eve, or Owru Yari, in the centre of the capital city, Paramaribo. Reshma Kirpalani took this photograph of the celebrations: "I go every year. The atmosphere is extremely festive. Music pumps into the air, punctuated only by the explosion of fireworks."
