Revellers around the world are celebrating the end of 2011 and welcoming in 2012 with fireworks and parties on New Year's Eve. Chrissie Thoo welcomed the New Year in Sydney and took this photo of the annual fireworks from the Kirribilli peninsula.
Miriam in Brussels sent these pictures of the celebrations at Mont des Arts in the Belgian city.

Robert Kodama watied for new year at a small shrine in Ibaraki prefecture, Japan. He said: "It is a small shrine in Hitachiomiya in the prefecture next to Fukushima. It was a very local event but very traditional. We all rang the bell at the shrine and prayed for the new year at midnight."
