Alcohol tax 'should fund rehabilitation'

17 August 2014 Last updated at 08:36 BST

Taxes on alcohol sold in shops should be increased to pay for rehabilitation services, according to the Centre for Social Justice.

The think tank said a "treatment tax" on alcohol sold in shops could add 2p to a can of lager and 9p on a bottle of wine.

The money raised would fund residential rehabilitation services, it suggested.

Michael Buchanan reports.
