Call for vitamin supplements to be given to children

England's chief medical officer is calling for a new focus on improving the health of children.

Prof Dame Sally Davies says the number of cases of rickets is increasing and a scheme to give free vitamins to young children should be extended.

She told BBC Breakfast that treating children earlier to combat poor diet, obesity and diabetes would save the NHS money in the long-term.
