The way hospital inspections are carried out in England is to be radically overhauled, the new chief inspector says.
Prof Sir Mike Richards says the changes will mean longer, more thorough checks carried out by bigger teams which include both healthcare professionals and members of the public.
He said: "We've got to make sure that we bring everybody up to the standard of the best so that patients and the public can get the care they want, they need and they deserve."
