British man receives completely artificial heart

Help

A 40-year-old man has become the first British patient to receive a totally artificial heart.

The organ is powered by a battery unit and will allow Matthew Green to lead a more normal life while he waits for a live transplant.

Peter Weissberg, Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation, explains the significance of the device.
