The virtual reality game helping burn victims

Scientists are helping burns victims deal with the extreme pain they suffer in rehabilitation with the development of a virtual reality computer game.

The aim of SnowWorld is to reduce the amount of pain patients feel by immersing them in another 3D world where they have snowball fights with snowmen and penguins.

Professor Hunter Hoffman who developed the game in Seattle explained: "There is so much attention devoted to SnowWorld that there is not enough attention available to process the pain signals anymore."

Horizon: The Secret World of Pain is on BBC Two at 2100 GMT on Monday 31 January.
