Diabetes drug still prescribed despite advice
Senior doctors are calling for a drug used to treat type two diabetes to be withdrawn on safety grounds.
The drug, Avandia, has been linked with heart problems and one expert believes that it may be responsible for 1,000 extra heart attacks in Britain every year.
Now the British Medical Journal says the drug should never have been licensed at all.
Manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) said it was safe if properly monitored.
