Comedian Joan Rivers dies aged 81

The comedian Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81, her daughter has announced.

Melissa Rivers said her mother passed away surrounded by her family and friends at Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday.

The comedian stopped breathing during a procedure on her vocal cords at an outpatient clinic last Thursday.
