A guide to playing a new instrument: The dervishes

5 April 2014 Last updated at 00:07 BST

The whirling dervishes have been brought to life as the centre piece in a new telling of the Faust legend at the Royal Opera House.

The technology has been created by sound artist Andy Cavatorta.

It is at the heart of fellow sound artist Matthew Herbert's first opera, The Crackle, which opens on Saturday 5 April.

Cavatorta offers this guide to the dervishes.
