Alan Titchmarsh: MPs must think long-term on environment

26 March 2014 Last updated at 16:23 GMT

Politicians should think more long-term about the environment, Alan Titchmarsh has said.

The TV gardening presenter claimed the nation should plan "farther ahead" and consider passing on strategies to successive governments.

He added that more needed to be done to attract young people into the horticulture industry.

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Richard Bacon: "I get very angry at successive governments... for whom long-term is 10 years."

"It isn't a long time in terms of the environment and the countryside where 100 years is quite short."
