DG Tony Hall defends making BBC Three online-only

6 March 2014 Last updated at 10:32 GMT

The BBC's director general, Tony Hall, has defended plans to axe BBC Three as an on-air channel.

The decision to make the channel only available via the iPlayer is expected to contribute towards the corporation's plan to save £100m by 2016.

Lord Hall told the BBC's David Sillito the decision was "difficult" but "historic".
