American Hustle was the big winner at the 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards in Hollywood. The ceremony, sandwiched between the Golden Globes and the Oscars, is the night when stars "wear their third favourite dress," joked model Christine Teigen, but there was plenty of glamour on the red carpet nonetheless.
Julia Roberts wore a retro pink jumpsuit by Valentino to the ceremony. She was not up for any awards, but appeared onstage alongside her August: Osage County co-star Meryl Streep
American Hustle's Amy Adams, and Homeland's Morena Baccarin both chose cobalt dresses with plunging necklines as they walked the red carpet. Adams' retro hairstyle was a nod to her character in the 1970s con-artist caper.
Dame Helen Mirren was rewarded for her portrayal of defence lawyer Linda Kenney Baden in Phil Spector, a TV biopic of the record producer who was convicted of murder in 2009. She received her trophy from actor Don Cheadle
Cate Blanchett, wearing a pale pink Givenchy halterneck, won best actress for her role in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine. Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery, in a black and white J Mendel gown, went home empty-handed, but her co-star Dame Maggie Smith won an award for her role as the Dowager Countess.
Animated as always, Jennifer Lawrence greets Lupita Nyong'o on the red carpet. They were both up for best supporting actress, with Nyong'o eventually taking the title for her role in 12 Years a Slave.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, accompanied by girlfriend Sari Mercer, was widely expected to win best actor in the film categories for his role in 12 Years a Slave. In the event, he was pipped to the post by Matthew McConaughey, who was recognised for Texan HIV drama Dallas Buyers Club
Tom Hanks, along with his wife Rita Wilson and Emma Thompson on the red carpet. Hanks and Thompson starred together in Saving Mr Banks, but the film failed to pick up any awards.
Matt Damon congratulates Michael Douglas as he wins best actor (mini-series) for Behind The Candelabra. Douglas played flamboyant pianist Liberace in the HBO film, with Damon portraying his young lover Scott Thorson
The Fatal Attraction star later walked in to the press room, and helped the assembled journalists identify exactly who he was.
Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul celebrate Breaking Bad's victory in the best cast (TV drama) category. Earlier, Gunn had arrived on the red carpet with a clutch featuring the chemical symbols for Bromine and Barium - a reference both to the show's title, and its storyline, about a chemistry teacher who becomes a meth dealer.
Modern Family won best cast (TV comedy) for the fourth consecutive year. "Thanks to our writers who make us sound so funny," said actress Sofia Vergara (centre), "[to] our whole crew that makes us look so pretty, and to my boobs... We're going to go party now."
Other winners on the night included West Side Story's Rita Moreno, who was presented with the lifetime achievement prize by Morgan Freeman; Julia Louis-Dreyfus, named best actress (TV comedy) for Veep; and Lupita Nyong'o, who celebrated winning with her 12 Years a Slave co-star Benedict Cumberbatch.
