Joseph Calleja 'bringing opera to the masses'

2 September 2013 Last updated at 10:59 BST

Opera star Joseph Calleja has spoken of his wish to bring opera to a wider audience, ahead of his two concerts for the Proms.

Calleja will perform one traditional programme of Verdi pieces and another, less classical set featuring songs such as La Vie en Rose, in a Hyde Park concert also featuring Bryan Ferry.

He told BBC Breakfast that he wanted to convince non-opera fans that "you don't need a 25-year degree from a university to understand opera."
