Daft Punk: Making French pop 'super cool'

21 August 2013 Last updated at 17:02 BST

Gone are the days when French pop was a joke. The UK and the US have both had a French number one this summer.

In the UK, Get Lucky by the French electro duo Daft Punk has sold more than any other single so far this century, while their new album got to number one in 92 countries.

Daft Punk attribute their early motivation to an unlikely source; former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

John Laurenson reports on why French music has become so incredibly cool.
