Ralph Heimans: Defaced Queen portrait 'shocking'
8 August 2013 Last updated at 13:36 BST
In June, a portrait of the Queen was defaced with paint in Westminster Abbey. A man has since been charged with causing criminal damage and will appear in court again next month.
The picture, which was the only official painting commissioned to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee has now been restored and is back on display at the Abbey.
In his first recorded interview since the incident, Ralph Heimans spoke to the BBC's arts correspondent Rebecca Jones in his studio in south London about what happened.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Thursday 9 August 2013.
