Oscars 2013: Nominations announced

The shortlist for this year's Academy Award nominations has been announced ahead of the Oscars ceremony next month.

Quvenzhane Wallis, 9, could be the youngest star to take home a best actress Oscar after being nominated for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild.

The film is also in the running for best film alongside Quentin Tarantino's western Django Unchained, Tom Hooper's musical Les Miserables, Ang Lee's Life of Pi , David O Russell's Silver Linings Playbook and Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty.

Other best picture nominees include Michael Haneke's Amour, Steven Spielberg's drama Lincoln - which picked up 12 nominations overall - and Ben Affleck's Argo.

Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced the nominations on Thursday.
