Big Picture: 'New' Titian joins collection

Portrait of a Man (Girolamo Fracastoro), attributed to Titian

A portrait acquired by the National Gallery in 1924 has been newly authenticated as a work by the Renaissance master Titian. Portrait of a Man, thought to depict the poet and scholar Girolamo Fracastoro, becomes one of 15 pieces by the Italian painter owned or co-owned by the London institution.
