Art and religion in Mughal India
A new exhibition at the British Library takes a rare look at the empire which ruled the Asian subcontinent before the British.
"Mughal India: Art, Culture and Empire" examines the dynasty of invaders from central Asia - descendants of Genghis Khan.
But rather than reflect the cultural tensions associated with areas such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, the exhibition reveals a surprisingly harmonious and multi-cultural society.
Tom Donkin reports.
