Kevin O'Hare has taken over as director of The Royal Ballet following Monica Mason's retirement in July 2012.
The former ballet dancer says he plans to "increase support" for dancers through psychology, massage and physiotherapy.
But he told BBC Breakfast the company will still need to conduct "vigorous training sessions".
