Meet the Author: Jerry Brotton
A new book by Prof Jerry Brotton, A History of the World in Twelve Maps, argues that no map is ever wholly accurate or objective.
All maps tell us as much about the people and societies that made them as they do about the world itself.
He discussed Mercator, maps used for propaganda and Google Earth with Nick Higham in the library of the Royal Geographical Society in London.
