Engelbert Humperdinck is UK Eurovision act for 2012

Engelbert Humperdinck is to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in May, the BBC has confirmed.

He has been performing for nearly five decades and has sold 150 million records in his career.

Eurovision expert Liam Jarnecki says Humperdinck is "hugely popular" in parts of Europe.

"This is the man that is representing our country now, so it's probably time to get behind him," he said.
