Ugly Betty star America Ferrera is to make her West End debut in the long-running musical Chicago.

The 27-year-old, who played style-challenged Betty Suarez in the TV fashion satire from 2006-10, will portray scheming showgirl Roxie Hart.

Ferrera will star opposite Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, a role she is currently playing on Broadway.

Ferrera will join the cast for an eight-week run from 7 November at the Garrick Theatre.

She will also help celebrate the start of the show's 15th year in London on its anniversary on 18 November.

Ferrera is the latest celebrity to play the femme fatale, following in the footsteps of former supermodel Christie Brinkley, Destiny's Child singer Michelle Williams, pop star Ashlee Simpson and actress Brooke Shields.

Renee Zellweger also played the character in the Oscar-winning 2002 film version.

Casting for Velma's lawyer, Billy Flynn, has yet to be announced.
