Opera North: Dilemma over cancelling show due to gay reference is 'hateful'
Opera North have described as "hateful" their dilemma over cancelling an opera after a primary school pulled out of the project due to objections to a reference to homosexuality.
Bay Primary School in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, pulled 300 pupils out of Beached, a libretto written by Billy Elliot creator Lee Hall, after he refused to remove references to a gay character's sexuality.
Mr Hall and Opera North general director Richard Mantle joined BBC Breakfast to discuss the line which has caused so much controversy.
