Lang Lang: The 'rock star' Chinese pianist

The Chinese concert pianist, Lang Lang, combines a classical repertoire with pop-culture showmanship.

For many of his countrymen, he ranks as a hero alongside basketballer, Yao Ming, and hurdler, Liu Xiang.

He also appeared on the Olympic stage - performing at the opening of the Beijing games.

Although his later training was in the United States and he now lives in New York, he has close ties to his native country as a cultural ambassador for China.

Lang Lang was interviewed as part of the BBC's Power of Asia series.
