Comedians set highest gig record for Comic Relief

O Briain has hosted several panel shows including Mock the Week

Comedians including Dara O Briain have set a world record for the highest stand-up comedy gig in the world.

O Briain joined fellow comics Jack Whitehall and Jon Richardson on board a British Airways flight to perform the "smile high gig" for Comic Relief.

The gig, performed in front of 180 passengers, raised almost £100,000 for Red Nose Day.

"I was looking forward to today - after all, it's the only gig where people can't walk out," said Whitehall.

The 45-minute gig took place on board a BA A321 aircraft from London Terminal 5.

British Airways captain Brian Connolly said: "I'm proud to be able to say that I'm a Guinness World Records holder, and of course - member of the smile high club."

The feat comes ahead of this Friday's six-and-a-half-hour TV marathon presented by Fearne Cotton, Lenny Henry, Davina McCall, Michael McIntyre, Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross, James Corden and Claudia Winkleman.

Musical will be provided by Adele, Annie Lennox, JLS, Take That and The Wanted.

Sketches including Outnumbered, Miranda, Harry Hill's TV Burp, Doctor Who, Masterchef and Armstrong and Miller will also be aired.
