Dame Kiri Te Kanawa tells of her distress at New Zealand's earthquake

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has told of her distress at the earthquake in her home country of New Zealand on Tuesday.

The world famous operatic soprano performed in Christchurch just a couple of weeks before the earthquake struck.

She told BBC Radio 5 live: "It's quite emotional, even talking about it now."

"When will this happen again? It's heartbreaking, the whole thing's heartbreaking."
