Bjork leads Iceland anti-takeover campaign

Icelandic singer Bjork has held a three-day karaoke marathon to back a petition against foreign ownership of Iceland's natural resources.

"We don't really have a legal system to address privatisation or how somebody would treat the energy sources," the star told the BBC World Service.

So far about 50,000 people have signed the petition against the sale of a geothermal energy company to a Canadian firm.

Geothermal energy would be an important part of Iceland's future and should not be sold, Bjork told the BBC.
