The 33rd annual Kennedy Awards has honoured iconic entertainers including talk show queen Oprah Winfrey and former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney for their contributions to US arts and culture.

Also in attendance were singers Merle Haggard and Sheryl Crow and actor Alec Baldwin.

Sir Paul said: "It's a huge honour. It is one of American's highest honours and as a performing artist it is just great to get it."
