American Pie actor Chris Klein has pleaded no contest to drink-driving in the US and will serve four years' probation.

Klein, 31, was also sentenced to four days he has already served in a Los Angeles jail, court officials confirmed.

He also agreed to attend 18 months of alcohol education classes.

The actor was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs on 16 June in Los Angeles.

Police say he was taken into custody at 0315 local time after his car was seen weaving between lanes on a freeway.

Klein was fined $1,800 (£1,230) in 2005 after he admitted drink-driving in San Diego.

He is best known for his role as Chris "Oz" Ostreicher in 1999 teen comedy American Pie.

The actor, who was engaged to actress Katie Holmes before she married Tom Cruise, also appeared in 1999 high school film Election.

In 2003, he starred in an adaptation of This Is Our Youth in London's West End.
