Ahead of 2010's Mercury Prize being awarded this evening, music journalist and author Garry Mulholland visits a Brighton record shop to offer his personal take on the impact the awards have had on British music in their 18 years of existence.

What does the now long list of winners and nominees tell us about the way that the UK music industry has changed, and to what extent does it reflect what the music-buying public was really listening to?
