Maths standards unnacceptable in England, says Ofsted
The schools watchdog Ofsted has condemned much of the maths teaching in England as "unacceptable". A new report has said the quality of maths teaching in England is inconsistent - and exams in the subject have become easier.
The report condemns widely varying teaching standards and calls for the government to take action to raise "mathematical ambition". It says the way the subject is taught lets down both able pupils and those who have a poor start.
Reeta Chakrabarti reports.
