England's 200 worst-performing primaries to be made academies

England's worst-performing primary schools will be closed next year and re-opened as academies, under government plans.

Education Secretary Michael Gove says the closure of the 200 worst schools will force failing institutions to get their pupils to expected levels in maths and English.

The new academies will be taken out of local authority control and run by more successful local schools, while a further 500 will be told they have three years to improve.
