Small claims court fee increase in England and Wales

24 April 2014 Last updated at 09:58 BST

Fees to make a claim using small claims court courts have been increased from April 22nd, with some almost double what they were previously.

The Ministry of Justice says the new pricing structure for England and Wales is crucial to cover the cost of cases.

The cost to make a claim of between £3,000 and £5,000 has increased from £120 to £205.

Consumer rights campaigner Helen Dewdney said it would be "more risky" for people to claim.

The BBC's Paul Lewis explained the price increases to BBC Breakfast.
