Ending poverty needs more than growth, World Bank says

10 April 2014 Last updated at 22:02 BST

Economic growth is "not enough" to end global poverty, the World Bank has said.

It has urged developing countries to allocate more resources to their extreme poor, including through bigger welfare programmes.

The issue is one of the main themes at the World Bank's spring meeting, which starts on Friday.

The bank's president, Jim Yong Kim, spoke to the BBC's Michelle Fleury.
