National shortage of fences pushes up demand

26 March 2014 Last updated at 16:15 GMT

A national shortage of fences in the UK has caused prices to rise by up to 30%.

Hardware stores have seen demand for fence panels increase by five-fold as a result of log shortages, poor winter weather and an increase in house building.

Thefts of the panels from people's gardens have also been reported.

However Simone Gallen, editor of Fencing and Landscaping News magazine, reassured BBC Radio 5 live's Drive listeners that the log shortage would get "sorted out" soon.
